Genetics, hormones, childbirth, aging are all factors that can result in the darkening of skin and while it is completely normal, if it is something that bothers you, Body + Skin Clinic offers an effective and intimate depigmentation peel.

Intimate Depigmentation Peel

Just like a chemical peel for the face, the skin in the intimate area can be treated with the Mesoestetic Intimate Depigmentation Treatment. It is a procedure in which the darkened skin is cleaned, a peel is applied for 7 minutes, then neutralised and a mask is applied.

The peel contains a combination of very effective and safe ingredients to lighten the skin such as tranexamic acid, lactic acid, kojic acid, niacinamide, 4-butylresorcinol, diosmine, retinyl palmitate, ferulic acid and glycyrrhiza glabra root.

Following the peel, a mask is applied and the client is advised to, after 2 hours, wash off the mask with copious amounts of lukewarm water and apply another mask for 15 minutes. Post-procedure care includes the use of an at-home serum which is applied daily for one to two months starting 2 days after the peel.

Tips to Prevent Further Darkening of the Intimate Area Skin

  • Avoid excessive friction. Walking, exercise, sex, shaving, waxing and any other activity that creates heat results in inflammation and possible abrasion. The friction sends pigment-producing cells into overdrive as the skin heals itself from the minor injury that is the tearing of the skin, this leads to intimate hyperpigmentation.
Sweat can get trapped in the folds of the skin. Moist skin rubbing against moist skin in the activities described in the above point can cause inflammation. To avoid this, wipe off excess moisture timeously.
Wear well ventilated underwear. Ensure that your underwear is not too tight and that it is made from materials that allow for free air flow such as cotton. If underwear is too tight, you run the risk of the fabric chafing against the skin.

If you experience bothersome darkening of the skin in intimate areas you are welcome to book a consultation to determine the causes of the pigmentation and the most suitable treatment option for you.
